The various processes of printmaking provides the oportunity to present images with a completely different aesthetic. Digital imagery takes on a whole new quality when produced through the hand-printing process. It's the perfect combination of new technology and traditional skills. I enjoy the challenge of pushing the boundaries and combining processes.
Lino Block and Letterpress (Relief printing)
During the New Territories project, I met artists Brenda Malkinson, Sydney Lancaster and Dawn Woolsey, from SNAP print studio in Edmonton, Alberta. I was invited to work in the studio and experiment with the letterpress type-set printing press that they have there. Instead of a test print, we ended up making an edition! A wonderful experience and hopefully an on going project with amazing artists in the centre of Canada.

Photopolymer gravure (Intaglio and screen printing)
Made in collaboration with the artist Ian Stephen and with the support of CNES and Cape Farewell. A body of work exploring the idea of travelling through stories. A series of four photo-gravure etched plates with screen printed texts recreate a maritime route from St Kilda to Fair Isle. Using digital images of off-lying islands and traditional stories located to that specific place. The colour of the screen printed texts is sampled from the original digital image. These works combine both contemporary and traditional printmaking techniques.
